BSNL, the nattion’s biggest public phone provider, has now made dial-up internet access free for all of it’s landline customers through out the India. You don’t need to worry about any sort of registration because there is no registration system. BSNL launched this scheme on September 1st but still this is not known to many because BSNL did not bade it a news.
Well have a look on what you have to do for using this service. Use your BSNL telephone connection and follow some standard steps in your web browser for setting up a free account. Start by plugging your telephone jack into your computer. Now enter your telephone number preceeded by the STD code( exclude the zero in the starting of the STD code) in the “Username” or “User Identification” field. Also enter your telephone number in the “Password” field. Now your computer is ready for web surfing through the all-india dial-up number 172222.

The speed that you will get in free dial-up scheme is quite good ( comparable to 56 Kbps) infact it’s better than some of the paid dial-up services. Remember one thing that you would have to pay local call charges corresponding to your surfing duration. This BSNL scheme is promised till October end.
Obviously providing free internet across the nation is quite a smart move by BSNL and it will definitely attract large number of people because this facility is really uncommon as far as India is concerned.
