Facebook’s iPhone app (iTunes link) is one of the most popular and widely used iPhone app and recently it got a nice upgrade to version 3.1 which includes two of the most important features which the iPhone users badly missed in the version 3.0. These two new features are Push Notifications and contact Syncing.
Actually iPhone doesn’t allow third-party apps to run in the background, and many apps, including this iPhone app, are useful only when they are opened up and are in use. But Push notification in new Facebook iPhone app is a great solution to this problem. Push Notification allows an application to get messages being pushed to it from the servers of third party applications.
With the Push notification you can get a audio or visual alert whenever there is some activity at your Facebook account, like when some one writes on your wall, comments on your shared content, send you a friend request etc. The notifications in this app can be customized, that is you can choose for what activities on Facebook you want a notification.
In addition to Push Notifications there is one other great feature in the 3.1 update and it’s contact syncing.
If Contact syncing is turned on then it will automatically add links to the Facebook profiles of all the people present in your address book, and you can also choose to replace the photos for those contacts with their Facebook profile pictures.
Hope you will enjoy both the two new features in this iPhone app update. Don’t forget to drop a line in comments if you have something to say. We would love to hear from you.
