Google has introduced a smart feature to its Gmail service with which Gmail account holders can access their Gmail account even if they are not connected to internet. Gmail uses Gears to download the local cache of your mail. This cache is synchronised with the Gmail servers as long as you are having internet connection and once you lose your internet connection Gmail will automatically switch to offline mode and uses the data stored on your PC’s hard drive.

In offline mode though you can’t send a message but you can read the messages, along with labelling them and putting a star to them, also you can compose a message in the offline mode. Now once you get back your internet connection Gmail will automatically switch to the online mode. For turning ON this Gmail Labs feature follow these simple steps.
1: Log in to your Gmail account.
2: Go to settings and click on the ‘Labs’ Tab.
3: Select Enable next to Offline Gmail.
4: Click on the save changes.
5: Now reload your browser and you’ll see a new “Offline0.1″ link in the upper right hand corner of your account, next to your username. Click on this link for starting the offline Gmail setup process and download Gears if you don’t already have it.
