Motorola is planning to launch a phone probably in second quarter of 2009 that would be based on the Google’s newly released Android operating system, according to reports in Business Week. This Motorola’s smartphone would be having a large touchscreen like that of iPhone, out sliding QWERTY keyboard along with social networking features. Though the first android based phone from T-Mobile got positive reviews for it’s android operating system, it was not upto the expectations of customers as far as hardware design is concerned.

While Motorola has declined to specify its plans, it issued a statement saying, “We’re excited about the innovation possibilities on Android and look forward to delivering great products in partnership with Google,” BusinessWeek.com reported, indicating that Motorola has been showing wireless carriers spec sheets and images of the device, which is expected to hit the U.S. market in the second quarter of 2009.
So with this move from Motorola, it’s obvious that there would be a tough fight among the smartphone manufacturers. Infact it’s going on among the leading players like Nokia, Apple, HTC.
