Wireless charging, Isn’t it a cool concept? Well it really is and RCA Airnergy is a device that brings this concept into real life. It is a Wi-Fi powered charging USB device that makes use of the nearby Wi-Fi signals to charge your gadgets.
This Wireless charging concept is not a brand new one, it has been already implemented, but the energy conversion efficiency in those implementations was not sufficient enough to make this concept a reality. But RCA Airnergy is quite a promising one.
Introduced in CES 2010, RCA Airnergy charger charged a BlackBerry from 30% to 100% in about 90 minutes, simply by using the nearby Wi-Fi signals as a sorce of power.
Few RCA Airnergy features that makes it simply awesome are:
1: Airnergy has a battery inside it, so you can easily carry it around in the Wi-Fi environment, and it’ll charge itself.
2: No need to hunt for electric sockets, RCA Airnergy charges on the go.
3: One thing that’s really exciting is that this USB charger will be available this summer and that too just for $40.
How Airnergy Works? Have a look at this video to get an idea how it works.

Is this wifi gadget for real? If so, why not use the “free energy” from cell phone, am/fm radio, and tv towers?
You made a nice point mike.
But its the difference of frequency that wouldn’t allow it to be charged by cellphone ,am/fm radio and tv towers. WiFi operating frequency is somewhere 2.4 GHz while for cellphone and radio frequency band are in MHz.
RCA Airnergy is designed to work with 2.4 GHz signal, that’s why it should not work in other frequency bands.
