Technorati, a popular blog search engine that has got millions of blog indexed is really one of the best source to figure out what’s buzzing in the blogosphere. Technorati assigns authority to all the blogs in its index which in turn depicts the credibility and popularity of the blogs in its index.
Like many other blogs VirginTech is also present in the Technorati’s index, but a few weeks back I noticed that technorati is not updating Authority, Recent posts and other stats for VirginTech. At that time I thought that it would be momentary problem so I checked the stats again after a week or two, but to my surprise i found the same result again and there were no update in blog stats. I quickly googled about this problem and found that there are many other blogs also whose stats are not updating at all.
I reported this problem to technorati many times but it seems that they are least bothered about all this and they didn’t replied even once on this issue. I raised this issue in technorati forums too but got no response there too. Its been almost a month and the same problem still persists with VirginTech stats on technorati.
You can see in the screenshot below that Technorati is still showing up almost 20-25 days old post from VirginTech.
The problem presently with technorati is not only about the updating of stats, there is one more thing that many bloggers are reporting and its about the Technorati Blog claiming. Actually when a blog is submitted to technorati, it is first of all manually reviewed and if the blog meets their guidelines then it gets into the technorati index. Now the problem here is that this blog claiming process according to many bloggers is taking too much time as compared to what it usually takes.
Some of the reactions from the blogosphere about this Technorati problem are mentioned below:
Greg Ledger says “I claimed my blog two weeks ago, then again last week when it did not appear in the blog search. Still not appearing in the blog search, and my URL information is wiped from the profile”.
Patrick says “I post 2 or 3 times a day, but the last time you updated my info was 19 January. About 6 weeks ago my authority was in the high 500s, and from time to time there was a button showing that my blog was in the top 100 science blogs. Suddenly my authority is down to 1″
Chris says “Over 2 weeks ago I initiated a blog claim (it’s antivirustech.com), and absolutely nothing in response. Didn’t get any emails or any other instructions as to what to do next. How and WHEN can this get resolved?”
Technorati, we hope you will address these issues as soon as possible and also we expect (like other bloggers) a better support from you on these issues.
Update: Technorati has now started updating our stats correctly. We hope its working for others too. Thank you Technorati

Same problem with me and my technorati authority has gone down to 1 now. Don’t know when technorati is going to fix all this!
Thanks for commenting chris!
BTW have you contacted technorati for this?
@Shahab, No I haven’t done it. I just hope that they will fix up this soon.
Congrats Shahab for getting back your stats in technorati. Looks like technorati hear this way
Thanks Philip
I have just the same problem. A blog which gets plenty of hits every day with an authority of 1, and no posts being picked up via my feedburner RSS feed.
Well this is really a very strange problem with technorati, don’t know why technorati guys are not fixing up these errors with so many blogs.
Anyway the only thing that you can do in this regard is to report this error to technorati. May be they will fix it up after noticing it.
Thanks Shahab,
I’ve flagged it on the Technorati Get Satisfaction page, but right now I’m not getting much satisfaction (to misquote the Rolling Stones!). It’s infuriating and it doesn’t make Technorati look good. I’ll update you when something happens.
I myself seen this problem at Technorati, my site authority count is zero. And now it is alright.
Thanks for commenting Hari!
I am glad to know that your technorati authority problem is solved now !!
My problem with Technorati is that it thinks my latest blog is one that is 3 posts old. It is in fact a few weeks old aswell.
I notice that they do not do pinging anymore, so how does it detect your blog updates?
These services get updated by sitemaps. I hope you’re using one for your site.
Shahab,
Yes, we use a sitemap to feed Google’s webmaster tools. I have given Technorati the RSS feed, isn’t this what it uses to update?
Is there any special format for the sitemap?
Well Rebecca Technorati is quite screwed up now. The Technorati authority problem has again come into the picture for VirginTech. It’s not gathering data of many blogs in the way it should.
Btw, you’re right technorati uses the RSS feed to get its stats updated but i think there is something wrong with technorati. Its showing up wrong results for so many blogs.
Anyway if your site is on WordPress then you better use Google XML Sitemaps plugin by Arne Bachhold. It will take care of all your sitemap issues. You won’t have to bother for it anymore.
I have same problem there. Just 1 question, how often Technorati update our information? Maybe 1 per day? 1 per week? Or?
Thanks for commenting panoet!
I really don’t like technorati at all. It is getting worst day by day. Moreover technorati seem to be least bothered about its service.
They (technorati staff) don’t even bother to respond to the various queries put up by so many frustrated bloggers about the mismanagement of their blog’s stats.
As far as your question is concerned i would say that technorati is not updating the stats for many blogs even once a month.
I wonder whether Technorati will ever resolve this issue.
I went from ranking in the top #100 of my niche (video games) and climbing rapidly down to 1 authority in a matter of days. Since then, which was 3 months ago, Technorati hasn’t registered a single post I’ve written.
I agree with you Droniac, I don’t think it would be any difficult for technorati to resolve this issue. But the point is they are still not able to do it.
My problem is more that my blog does not appear at all on the search results
(even though it has authority, most recent posts, etc) sigh..
Well how old your blog is Michael? As far as technorati authority is concerned, I have stopped caring about it. I don’t know why there system is so messed up.
Can anyone say how to find all of my indexed posts on technorati.
